Hair Transplant
Conveniently located to serve Newark, DE
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure where hair follicles are moved from one part of the body (typically the back of the scalp) to areas experiencing hair loss or thinning. At Advanced Plastic Surgery Center in Newark, DE, hair transplants are performed using the NeoGraft® follicular unit extraction (FUE) device.
What Is a NeoGraft® FUE Hair Transplant?
During an FUE hair transplant procedure, individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area. This process differs from FUT (follicular unit transplantation), where a whole strip of hair would be removed, often leaving a visible linear scar on the back of the head. Instead, the precision of FUE ensures that each follicle is carefully harvested and placed, leading to more natural hair growth patterns.
The NeoGraft® method is a minimally invasive hair rejuvenation procedure designed to treat balding in almost half the time of any other conventional non-FUE technique. NeoGraft® is safe, comfortable, effective, and affordable while allowing no linear scarring and minimal downtime.
Is FUE Right for Me?
Ideal candidates for an FUE hair transplant are typically patients experiencing significant female or male pattern baldness but who still have enough healthy hair follicles in the donor area for harvesting. They should also be in good overall health and without medical conditions that impede healing or hair regrowth. If you still have dormant or weakened hair follicles in the desired treatment area, we may instead offer PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections.
What Are the Steps of NeoGraft® FUE Hair Transplant Surgery?
If you are approved for NeoGraft® FUE, it will be performed by board-certified cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon Dr. Lawrence Chang following this strategy:
- Donor hair removal – The NeoGraft® procedure starts with individual follicular hair micrografts taken from the back of your head, where your hair is genetically programmed to resist testosterone and the subsequent effects of progressive hair loss seen in other parts of your head.
- Dissection of the follicular units – Each hair graft is gently removed with the same consistency in diameter and length, resulting in a dramatically increased survival take rate.
- Creation of the recipient sites – The hair transplant team creates individual recipient sites in the proper orientation, direction, and angle according to the artistic hair restoration plan that has been designed for you.
- Placement of the hair grafts – The follicular micrografts are carefully separated by size into individual one, two, and three-follicle micrografts. This enables us to create a natural and seamless frontal hairline with one-hair follicular micrografts and to bend the other grafts to create a beautiful and natural look.
The Recovery Process
FUE Patients can expect some redness and mild swelling in both the donor and transplant areas, which usually subside within a few days. It’s important to follow all post-operative care instructions provided by Dr. Chang, including avoiding strenuous activities and direct sun exposure during the initial recovery period. Full recovery can take a few weeks, but patients can resume most normal activities within a couple of days.
How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost?
The cost of a NeoGraft® FUE hair transplant varies based on the number of grafts needed and the complexity of the procedure. The price is determined on a case-by-case basis during a consultation at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center.
