If fitness and weight loss efforts have not achieved your goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate to your overall body image, a surgical thigh lift may be right for you.Thigh lift surgery at Advanced Plastic Surgery & Nouveau Cosmetic Center in Newark, Delaware can help improve your body contours by slimming the inner and outer thigh, the areas around the hips, and knees.
Patients typically desire a thigh lift because the skin around the legs has lost its elasticity due to the natural aging process or when fat deposits have been left behind following dramatic weight loss. Often this drooping or jiggling skin does not respond to diet or exercise. Regardless of the reason behind wanting a thigh lift, the surgeons of Advanced Plastic Surgery & Nouveau Cosmetic Center can address these issues and provide results that will allow for a more youthful, natural-looking appearance you desire.
- Reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin and fat
- Results in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours
- General anesthesia
- Outpatient or overnight at hospital
- 1-2 weeks off work
- Moderately painful first 72 hrs
- Return to exercise at 4 weeks
During a thigh lift, an incision, located below the bikini line to remain inconspicuous and conceal the scar, is made in the upper inner thigh, and excess skin and fat are removed. The length of the incision depends on the amount of excess skin to be removed. The skin is then pulled tight and drawn together to create a smooth appearance. Drains are temporarily inserted at the incision site for proper healing. Deep sutures and compression garments are used to reduce the tendency of the skin to fall down and ensure a quick healing process.
Typically, liposuction is also used to remove any stubborn pockets of excess fat in the thighs and legs. Liposuction alone can remove excess fat deposits where skin has good elasticity and is able to naturally conform to the new body contours. In cases where skin elasticity is poor, a combination of liposuction and thigh lift techniques may be recommended. A thigh lift can be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia in two to four hours, however, in some instances, your surgeon may recommend that you stay overnight.
After thigh lift surgery, bruising, swelling, and some pain can be expected, but this can be managed with medication. In addition, a special garment may be recommended to assist the healing process. Some patients are able to return to some basic activities with the first week, but most typically return to daily routines within two to three weeks.
The results of a thigh lift are visible almost immediately. However, it may take several months for the final results to fully develop. Some visible scars will remain, but the overall results are long lasting, provided that you maintain a stable weight and general fitness. As your body ages, it is natural to lose some firmness. However, most of your initial improvement should be relatively permanent.
