One of the most common requests we receive is “What can I do about my eye area?” The eye area is the first to show the aging process. Patients often complain of the “tired look” or “angry look”. The eye brows descend down, excess skin is hooded on the upper lids and the skin loses its elasticity and forms wrinkles. The eye area can look puffy and as if there are “bags” under the eyes.
With the advances in surgery as well as non-surgical innovations there are plenty of choices to improve the eye area depending on what your needs are.
1) Eyelid surgery. Also known as blepharoplasty this surgery will remove excess skin and possibly the fat pad under the skin giving the eye area an opening effect and enhancing your cosmetic appearance.
2) Endoscopic brow lift. This procedure is done using small incisions behind the hairline to elevate the brow and smooth the forehead resulting in a more rejuvenated and relaxed look.
3) Chemical peels. Chemical peels are safely applied around the eye area to tighten the skin and decrease wrinkles. Peels can range from deep to mild and can be done with surgery or in the office alone. Some chemical peels have no downtime and you can enjoy the benefits without trying to find the “perfect time”.
4) Laser resurfacing. Resurfacing can be done in several ways. Deeper resurfacing can use the CO2 laser as an outpatient procedure to produce dramatic skin tightening and decrease in eye wrinkles. You can also choose to have erbium laser treatment (Pixel Perfect) done in the office with little downtime to improve wrinkles and boost collagen.
5) Injections to under eye area. Some patients have concern about deep creases or depressions they have under the eye area which may give them a hollowed look or accentuate dark circles under the eye. To improve this hollowed look, Restylane is injected and can dramatically improve the contour under the eye. This procedure is done safely in the office and results can last 12 months or longer.
6) Botox or Dysport. If crow’s feet are your concern, a simple injection of Botox or Dysport can significantly soften the wrinkles around the eye area. There is no downtime and results are very satisfying and a little addictive!
7) Products. Using daily products to rebuild collagen and decrease the aging process is essential. We have prescriptive products like Elastiderm and RetinA that have scientific support for results. If you have dark circles, we recommend Auriderm to the under eye area and also have Jane Iredale mineral concealers for the eyelid area to brighten the eyes. Our staff provides free consultations to review these concerns and place you on the appropriate products to meet your needs.
8) Latisse. Getting that charmed “come hither” look used to take lots of time armed with fake lashes and sticky glue. Thanks to Latisse you can get those results without the hassle! Latisse is a prescriptive treatment to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. Amazing!
9) Permanent Cosmetics. Permanent eyeliner or eyebrow cosmetics can enhance the overall look of the eye and can add definition to the face. Have perfect brows and liner everyday!
